Welcome One & All...

My name is Victoria Kirby, a modern day American who recently became reconnected with my old world British spiritual roots through self-hypnosis and meditation. Paganism and Witchcraft in many forms are beautiful and enchanting religions based in nature, mythology, and spirituality. Scroll down to read my story on how I discovered my devotional calling.

My Story...

I was born in the Midwest USA and currently reside in South Florida. I attended a Methodist Church in my youth but my family was not overly religious. We went to church most Sunday's but that was about the extent of our faith. As I grew older, I began to question not only organized religion, but the very existence of God himself. For a period of time, I considered myself to be a full-fledged atheist. This philosophy did not last long though, not because I suddenly "saw the light" or found my faith, but simply because I knew that inside I had deep spirituality and the soul of a seeker.

I began using meditation and self-hypnosis as means to feed my mind and soul and improve my life. I never intended to mix these institutions up with religion, however their path's would soon cross. During some amazing experiences while getting in touch with my inner-self, I began to discover some stirring visions deep within me. I had never considered "reincarnation" before, and am still unsure of it's meaning as perceived by the general populous. I emerged from these experiences though quite positive that there was more to my life than the existence that I was currently living.

I became practically obsessed with old-world England and it's mystical people and places. I did not understand why at first, but as my thirst for knowledge and lore kept me digging, I almost felt myself become one with the world I was uncovering. It was then that it all came together for me: personal struggles with understanding faith became crystal clear and permanently embedded in my mind, heart, body, and soul.

I was a Witch! This declaration would have set even me to chuckling just a few years ago. We mock what we do not understand. Everything about Witchcraft as a religion was everything that I had been searching so desperately for. "God" as a Universal Consciousness, or the force of Nature rather than a "person" figure. The belief in several God's, the spiritually divine. The Pagan belief that religions are not doctrine-centered, not "revealed" through prophet revelations. Rather, belief that truth is eventually revealed through a continuing process of observation and life existence.

Like any other religion, Witchcraft is a constant process of growth and evolution. While there are many practitioners who see things completely differently than others, there is a wealth of information available for us all to digest and interpret. Though Wicca is just one form of modern Witchcraft as religion, what is known as the "Wiccan Rede" (guide to ethics and morals) is summarized with "an it harm none,do what ye will". This would make for a good creed for most other, more accepted organized religions, don't you agree?

Witches & Pagens & Wiccans...Oh My!

~
Witchcraft
is an Earth based religion, accepting the seen and unseen forces in all nature here on Earth and in the greater universe. It is a religion of honor and respect for all living things.

Pagan, from the Latin term, paganus, literally translated means "country dweller." That term likely remains from the days when Christianity attempted to systematically make their beliefs exclusive and intolerant. Paganism is a blanket term for old religions of ancient and indigenous peoples practicing polytheistic spirituality (belief in, and worship of multiple Gods and Goddesses).

Wicca is the most modern version of the Witchcraft religion, founded in the 1950's and based on several elements of both traditional British Witchcraft and Paganism.

Is Witchcraft A Religion?

~
One of the more debated questions among certain Crafters should not really be a question at all.

A traditional witches credo, believed to date back to the 14th century,
acknowledges the right of all people to practice their own path of spirituality, as long as that path does not bring harm or injury to any living being. Unlike several other faiths, Witchcraft as a religion or lifestyle does not have one set track or rules, so I recommend you absorb as much information as possible and create your own path.

It is interesting to note however that following a 1985 U.S. Court of Appeals decision, that Witchcraft became an officially recognized religion protected by the 1st amendment under the umbrella label of "Wicca". I plan on blogging on this case (Dettmer v. Landon) soon.
